BF115 Shift Linkage Problem

Well a long story short is I had to extract the oil change extraction tube that got cut off inside the oil pan. Turns out the inside edge of the mount case dipstick tube hole is very sharp. Removed the gear case, extention case & oil pan. Removed about 2.5 feet of tubing and put everything back together. Everything went very smooth. However I cannot shift into forward. I made sure the shift rod was installed correctly. It is. I removed the gear case again and diconnected the shift cable at the linkage. The linkage won't shift into the forward position. Something is preventing it from shifting forward, R & N are okay. Any ideas before I tear into this thing some more?

Thanks

You may want to read through this post. It applies to a 150HP but the shift A and B that we discuss function the same below the powerhead and down to the lower unit.

It is possible that when you put your long shift rod back in, that the e ring #32 that holds the shift shaft under the engine was knocked off....and you pushed the shift shaft A #5 up so that it is out of sync with shift shaft B #9. http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard%20Engine/2001/BF115A1%20LCA%20MARINE%20ENGINE%2C%20JPN%2C%20VIN%23%20BZBG-1200001%20TO%20BZBG-1299999/SHIFT%20SHAFT/parts.html

Mike,
Thanks so much for your reply. I did read through the other post and it verify's what I thought hapened because we did have that e-ring off. I did briefly try what you described, when it didn't work I thought something else was going on. But I'm going to try it agian, hopefully it will work this time. I don't see why it would as that's really how it got misalligned in the first place. Here goes!

GOT IT!

Went into alignment in about 2 minutes. Thanks so much for your response. I would have been removing more parts that didn't need to be removed. I am very happy.
