I would like to convert a 50 Honda to remote steering .I only have the steering cables as of now, Nothing else.
I got the tiller motor and two spares both with working tilt trim units very reasonable .
Thanks

Hi Terry,

I was hoping someone that knew how you would go about doing this would have answered you by now.

I have never done this and would probably never attempt it because, depending on what you mean by "remote steering" it might be a lot more complicated than it looks at first.

I'm assuming these outboards are older models and, depending on how old, some of the parts you may need (mostly electrical components) aren't available.

Obviously you'll need a suitable helm. There's plenty of used ones out there.... some with consoles.

If you're handy, you can probably fabricate a lot of things.

You will need a remote for throttle and shifting and at least a basic electrical harness for ignition and emergency stop as well as possible choke control.

You could rig a separate trim switch if using a generic remote without one.

A member here posted that he has a used remote for a 50 listed on ebay so you might look for things you need there.

If you want gauges and warning lights that will add additional complexity to the project.

You will definitely need to buy the steering plate and push rod for cable steer. Items 1 and 2 in the link below

I chose an older model as an example based on my assumption. The link below shows the remote control as unavailable but many of the internal components you might need to connect things are still supported in this case
You might need things like items 2 and 20 for the cable ends and other parts on this page.....I don't know. Just putting it out there.

I wish you good luck on accomplishing your project.
