I was having WOT problems so i ordered a new prop. Had a 10.5 by 12 Stilleti, went to a 12 by 8 honda prop. This required a new spacer after the prop. Now making a weird whirring noise under power. I think maybe i have the wrong thrust washer but 3 of them show up on the parts breakdown onlinr. My serial number is bazs 3701557. Can this be making the noise and which thrust washer is correct? Thanks

Inspect prop and gearcase to see if prop is rubbing.-----Going to an 8" is quite a change.----What boat is it on and what was WOT on the tachometer with 12" pitch.

This is on a pontoon boat. My tach seems to be reading about half of true rpms so this is what i had. I would read about 2600 (im assuming about 5200 rpm) and about the last 25 pct of throttle opening would make no difference except a loud sucking noise from the carb. It also kind of seemed to be surging up and down a couple hundred rpm at full throttle. I put the prop on that was recommended on the prop selection tool on the honda website. Now the tach goes to a steady 3000 rpm (im assuming 6000) and is responsible over full travel of the throttle. I planned to take the prop off today and see if i can see a rub. Thank you

Isn't there a setting on back of your tach using a screwdriver? I really don't like 6000 rpm, but its your motor, brother......what does Racer think?

They are designed to rev to 6000 when correctly propped, so you're on the right track

I checked the prop yesterday, didnt see any rubbing. And i misspoke, i got a 9 inch prop. Not an 8. Still a weird humming at some rpms. Its kind of picky as far as the trim. Tries to rev up like its not biting enough water. Dont know how else to say it. Im going to try to pull the tach out to check the settings.

I have known cheaper props to "sing" at certain rpm, our prop guy does something to the blade cupping to stop this.
