Belt too tight or loose?

95 Mercruiser 350 V8 Mag Tournament Ski, 95 Ski Sanger Tournament Tow Boat. Just changed out the two belts and installed a new sea water pump impeller. The sea water pump belt chirps a little on startup, but quiets down quick. It also does a little chirp when I shut down the engine. It's pretty tight (maybe 3/8" give). Too tight or loose? Belt should be OK with that much tension. Maybe even back it off a hair. You're probably hearing bearing squeal not belt. When you put the new belt on tighter than the old you are adding side load to the pump. How long has it been since the pump was rebuilt?

I though it might be a bearing. I have no idea when the pump was last rebuilt. I just replaced the impeller, which I know is not the same as a rebuild. Will look into rebuild kit or reman pump. Thanks!
