BB 130 intermittent starting???

I was fishing today and I went to start my boat and nothing , no alarm , no clicking ,no noise at all. I turned the key several times then I threw the anchor and figured I would be calling Tow Boat . I tried one more time and it started. I got back to the dock and shut it down I turned it on a few more times and it started. One of those times I took off the clip off kill switch and the engine shut off. I put the clip back on and the engine wouldn’t start again. While trying to diagnose the problem ,I had the left key turned to the start position and I was looking behind the ignition & Kill switch from inside the center console, when I slammed the console door shut the alarm to start went off and I started the boat. Seems like it is electrical 🤷‍♂️. My question is ….when I was back at the dock at the engine wouldn’t start ,I was surprised that the engine wouldn’t trim up either. Any thoughts on the issue ? Kill switch problem/ possible ground ?
Any input would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi,

You should check your battery cable connections....both ends of both positive and negative cables.

I think you will find this is simply a bad connection but, sometimes, that can be hard to find.

Wiggling and tapping can help as you've already proven when you shut the console door.

Good luck.

Thank you. It’s worth a try .
I don’t think it’s that though, my batteries aren't located in the center console ,they are in a compartment in the aft of the boat.
Never the less I will definitely check the terminals

In that case, there's a main power wire that feeds your console in the remote control harness. Try to find where it comes in and connects. Try wiggling and tapping in that area.

I have to tell you though that a problem like this is potentially dangerous because a broken connection on a wire that is "live" at all times could conceivably start a fire. If a "hot" wire is accidentall grounded it could heat up almost instantly.

There should be a fuse though to protect the circuit from that happening but you need to be aware of the possibility.

As I've already said, an intermittent problem like this can be very difficult to find. So, doing things in a step by step manner (like checking/cleaning battery terminal connections) will typically yield better results in the long run.

Good luck.

Look for a white wire with a black stripe (W/Bl).

That is the "hot" wire that brings power in to the remote control and dash off of the 90amp fuse.

It will have several "branches" to feed ignition switch and other things like the trim switch.

Good luck.

Correction: W/Bl wire is fed from the 10amp fuse....
So, I took off my battery cables and used a wire brush to clean them up. I was told by someone at honda shop to make sure larger cable was placed on terminal first with smaller one on top. I am not sure if that was the issue but my smaller a one was on top of the larger. The boat did start prior to making the adjustment though🤷‍♂️. So after numerous attempts the engine starts but I hear a slight whine or humming until I slightly bring back the key a slight bit. I had put some silicone in the ignition last season and at the start of this season because one time last year the key stuck a bit. Is there a way to tell if the ignition switch is going ?
Thanks

Yes you can test the switch, with the power disconnected, by using your multimeter on the ohms scale to see if the "start" terminal has continuity when the key is released. If it does, the switch should be replaced.
