Battery replacement

When looking into replacing the voltage regulator on my 96 Johnson, 105 hp. Dealer says do not use dry cell or AGM batteries, it will void the warranty.
What's the problem????

Use a marine lead acid type battery. Maintenance free type batteries store energy more effeciently and you will end up overheating the stator which can lead to powerpack failure. Install a volt meter and monitor battery voltage if you run above 15 volts do a thorough diagnostic of the charging system.
