Bad hole shot, would adding fins help? 2004 150 hp

I have a 2004 Honda 150 outboard and it is on the back of a light boat. I have problems with getting a good strong hole shot when pulling a skier, tube, etc... Would adding a fin to the outboard help with a better hole shot? If so, which one works best with the honda engine? I can not put trim tabs on the boat due to a rear ladder and the configuration of the lower portion of the boat, that would be the best option I would think, so now on to the fins.... will they work?

Putting a hydro fin on, could help with the hole shot but you could also have the wrong size prop for that engine. Depending on what you are doing with your boat, a bigger or smaller prop might improves your performance.

A smaller prop will give you a better hole-shot but you will lose top end speed. Have you considered a 4 blade propeller?

First, make sure your current prop is set up correctly. WOT should be between 5700 to 6000 rpm. If below that, experiment with a prop with smaller diameter or less pitch. If you are at 6000 rpm, then you could have a prop that is too small in diameter or has too little pitch because there is an rpm limiter on the 150. While experimenting with the different props, play with the engine trim to make sure you know the optimal trim setting at WOT. Then, when you need your hole shot, trim down the engine another 25% or so. Experiment with the trim for the hole shot.

If all that is set up correctly, then consider going to the 4-blade as Dockside suggested.

Only after trying all that would I consider adding the hydrofin.

So, bottom line is to make sure your prop and trim are optimized before you consider adding a fin.
