I have just acquired a 38ft ferrocrete boat. It has a GM detroit diesel model no 3029 unit no 3-616. I cant find any info about it. Could anyone help me please ? i am a beginner with inboard engines.

Hi,

You should probably try to post some pictures of the engine and transmission. Include the areas you found those numbers.
Remember, close in shots don't provide ANY perspective so longer shots give better reference.

Most 1970's and newer Detroit's have emissions data plates/labels attached to the valve cover if someone hasn't removed it. That would contains much of the pertinent information about how the unit came equipped from the factory.

If it's a V block, the engine serial number should be on the left side of the block as viewed from the rear.

I believe the inline engines had the serial numbers on the right hand side of the block as seen from the rear although my experience with those is very limited.

I still have my V-71 shop manual but that's about all the info I possess and memories have truly faded.

Good luck with your new to you vessel.

I find that I sometimes need to downsize photo files to 40% in order to load them on this site.

Here is a serial number chart for Detroit Diesel and Grey Marine and where to look.
