95 black max 175 electrical issue

My voltage regulators melted. Is this caused directly from the stator or could there be another issue? Thank you

Not unusual on newer mercs as voltage sensitive, maintance free batterys and loose connection main cause...

Yes sir. The silicone melted and was hanging. The wires were melted to the but connection.

I was also getting a low voltage alarm on the humminbirds and the front would sometimes shut off and not come back on

I was also getting a low voltage alarm on the humminbirds and the front would sometimes shut off and not come back on. The battery connections were tight but had enough grease on them I could turn them with a little bit of pressure. All other grounds seemed to be tight and clean

A 19 yr. old regulator...I suspect it just failed. Before replacing it ohm the stator to see if it is in specs. Also do the cable cks. as state above.

get rid of the wing nuts on the battery and get some stainless regular nuts...and they should be tight enough so you cant turn the cables under them...tight...i keep a cheap box wrench in the battery compartment just to check them whenever i an back there charging batteries etc...
