Hi,
First time here, was wondering if anyone knows if my motor can be run right with -
compression .....90 85
...............port- 90 80 -starboard
.......................90 90

thanks

Normally the starboard compression is about 95 psi, with the port compression being about 90 psi. The throttle doesn't need to be open... that's an old wives tale.

Your starboard bank appears to be lacking in its compression ratings. This is usually due to having a carburetor, one or more, slightly fouled which results in a lean running cylinder(s).

I'd suggest you run some SeaFoam thru that engine to see if the compression will improve.

Even with the PSI being 10 psi between the lowest and highest reading 80-90... if everything else is as it should be (linkages, fuel, spark, etc), the engine should still perform rather decently.

Pertaining to your PM stating that the engine has a melted choke solenoid and mentioning choke butterflies on the carburetors.........

The 1989 200hp Evinrude/Johnson does not incorporate a choke solenoid nor choke butterflies. What is the model number of that engine?

No, I don't know your uncle... I retired from the business in 1991.
