I have an 88 Mercury 70hp outboard. The hose is off of the fitting at the top of the power head just above the top spark plug. Can someone tell me where to run the hose to get the water out of the cowl? Thanks for any help

Post a picture if you can, Have you tried probing telltale opening with a piece of weedwacker line while she's running? Is motor running hot?

The water runs to a plastic junction block at the bottom of the power head.

I recommend that you do this: IF there is a hose going from the exhaust adapter plate (that 3/4 inch thick piece under the power head), remove this hose and plug the hole with an 1/8 inch NPT pipe plug. (With this hose, water I sent through the fuel pump to supposedly improve idle, where these motors need all the cooling they can get.) Then simply run a hose from that fitting atop the power head to below the cowling--anywhere so you can see the water flowing out.

If it is a 88 you have a small bore looper and the hose attaches to the nipple on center cowl bracket....it does not go to fuel pump on a 88 year.
