87 Johnson 140 looper - mods?

I have an 87 Johnson 140 looper and am wondering if anyone out there has had any experience/luck modifying them to get more out of them. I'm running a 16 Sidewinder which gets 50/55 on a 22 Raker and would like to take it north of 60 if possible. Any thoughts/suggestions?

That's the small bore Bridgeport model...do you ski/tube or just ride? If you just ride you can cut heads no more than .025, get rid of the "tea cup" intake and install one off a 98 and up V-4/6, vent the bottom bearing, use 99 and up adjustable carbs, jackplate if don't have one. Which size gearcase does it have?

Thanks for the response. Would this changes make a noticeable difference? I honestly have no idea what the gratcase is unfortunately. We do like to ski:tube but I really like taking it for good runs, it’s a rush 😋😊

You can spend a lot of $$$ trying to make that motor faster but best bang for buck is a repower. A 150/175 60 degree Johnrude aint but 5 lbs more than what you have now..and decals are cheap;)
