8.1 Volvo repower

What type of repower are you doing, short block, long block, base engine, package? Are you not satisfied with the existing drive's performance? The Volvo drives are top shelf units, IMO, and properly maintained last a lonnnnng time, so I do not see the need to replace. If you have the spare $$ kicking around and just want something new, then go for it.

There's really no comparison between the computer controlled injected engines available now versus an old carburetor one. Coupled to a brand new DP drive, well it gets me all goose bumpy. The trophy is a heavy boat and needs all the ponies you can throw at it. Just wonder if you're 16-18 grand serious about a repower. You can do a LOT of tweaking to what you have. Consider a Vortech supercharger (with air to water intercooler). You'll add 50% more power for about a third of the cost of a repower.

My old large block froze up after sitting for about 5 years in dry dock and my brother and I tried everything we could think about to turn it with no luck

Put out the word that you are looking for a good used running take out. Keep your eyes on Craigslist and Ebay.
