"Hi guys, new to forum. I just bought a 1979 15' Skeeter fishing boat with a 65hp Johnson. It says 50th anniversary series on the front of the engine cover and hydro-electric drive on the back. Am I right in thinking this is a 1973 model motor? I have a couple of problems I'm hoping someone can help me with. First, when you turn the key, the solenoid just clicks. I have 12 volts t the solenoid but nothing coming out. I assume the solenoid is bad. Is this correct? We jumped from battery to starter to start the motor to try the boat. It ran pretty smooth at what felt like around 30mph but reverse wouldn"t work. It seemed like the prop was turning but speed didn't increase with throttle, it just barely moved. Previous owner lost the prop last year and replaced it with a new one and said reverse had't worked since. Could he have also lost a thrust washer or something to cause this or maybe the lower unit is low on oil? During a search on this forum I found the procedure to check the lower unit solenoids but haven't had a chance to check that since I just got it 2 days ago. He also replaced the reverse switch a couple of years ago. Any and all information and advice would be greatly appreciated. Would 50:1 fuel/oil mixture be right? Thanks. Steve"
