60hp New Head Breakin?

Just my opinion....others will probably disagree....

....I've not heard of a formal "break in" period after a head replacement but....

I think it is probably wise to run a new or even reconditioned component like that with a certain degree of care when first used.

Because, it does have cam bearings and journals that are sensitive to lubrication supply. So, no prolonged idling or trolling at first.

In addition, I have always been a believer of not running new engines at at steady speed in the first hours to allow all components to "conform" with associated parts
An example might be piston rings to cylinder walls but could also be valve stems to guides or rockers to cam lobes.

In addition, the Hondas, not utilizing hydraulic lifters, would have me checking valve clearances at the same prescribed run time for a new head just as if the engine were new.

OTOH, I have had hot rod engine rebuilders that I KNOW are good at their craft tell me "run 'em like you stole 'em"....but I never could adhere to that. Call me chicken but I was just never rich enough to want to try that technique.

So, just my opinion....
....break in oil...no....

....but, yeah, I would apply a bit of breaking in care if it were mine.

Good luck.
