Hi, guido here. How important is this part and can I substitute something else to keep this area greasy and corrosion minimized? Also note the result of turning an outboard backwards. Thanks spartan roller trailer 35 merc 005.jpgspartan roller trailer 35 merc 006.jpgspartan roller trailer 35 merc 007.jpg

That is to keep water out of crankshaft splines as water will climb the driveshaft when running....

Mercury spline and coupler grease or a high temp white lithium....

Ok thanks, but the sleeves are damaged on both 35's. Could I use a quality piece of tubing to help seal the splines? Or should I order the correct part from the dealer or other source? The boat owner wants to use it this Friday.
