Just finished a repower from an OMC 5.0l/cobra set-up to GM 6.2l diesel V8 with a VP 290 duoprop on a 1988 24ft Bayliner Trophy
Ive posted a bit about it on the diesel section
Just thought I'd say a few words on how smooth the gear change is on the 290 DP, when running off the garden hose I honestly didnt think that it was engaging forward or reverse, I had to get my mate to go round and have a look to confirm all was well, it was
I've only ever owned two other drives, one was an older VP 270 which was a little bit clunky, and the cobra set up which was also slightly clunky
Just got to say to anyone thinking of changing to a VP DP, go for it
Regards
Nick
ps I've got a very slight rattle on idle in neutral (possibly from outdrive) but fine under load, checked UJ prior to install and all joints were tight with no slack, any ideas
Also had this on the older VP 270 on the last boat

Ya OK Just rub it in. Lemme know if you need any 6.2 stuff. They are just about giving them away around here. Considered by many to be among the worst GM product ever.

Sorry o2, it all works well, dont need your shipping address, yet! hope the motor isnt as bad as you think
Got an issue with the RPM guage (think you call it a tachometer) do you know which terminal on the alternator needs wiring to the guage?
