225hp Honda beeping after short time

I've followed threads with the same symptoms as I am experiencing. I have completed the following:
Removed water separators and taped wires. (external separators installed)
Tried motor and beeping code started after a minute or so.
Cleaned battery connections and replaced those that needed to be replaced. Tried motor, same problem.
Found red plug from ECU, shorted black and light green. Turned on ignition (didn't start motor) normal two beeps and red light on during beeps but no other codes on light or beeps.

Motor seems to run fine after turning off, restarting and getting underway, just won't idle without beeping after a minute or so. Long beeps, short off period.

Any help would be appreciated.

What are the lights doing when the alarm is sounding?

There should be four lights. Green - oil pressure, red - overheat, red - PGM (check engine), red - battery charge light.

If long intermittent beep and green oil light is on and red alternator light is on, then your alternator is not putting out enough volts/amps. First, clean connections at alternator, especially the big red wire and retest.

If long intermittent beep and green oil light is on and red check engine light is on, then your programmed fuel injection is having a problem, or at least the ECM thinks it is.
 
There are only two lights. A green and red. The lights have not blinked at all thus far.
The beeping is long with a shorter pause. Thanks!
 
I have an ace in the hole concerning my motors. A local friend has a boat and motors identical to mine. He hasn't had his boat in the water for almost three years but fishes with me regularly. He is willing to take off parts from his motor to identify my problem.
I guess at this point the question is what should I try to replace. Also does the ECU need to be reset? Thanks

tried that but same thing. i switched the O2 sensors and now the problem is switched to the other motor so it must be the O2 sensor.
Can an O2 sensor be bought cheaper off the internet?
 
Looks like you found the problem. Don't think there is a cheaper source for the 02 sensors. They're pricey little suckers.

However, that raises another issue. What is the year, model, and SN of your motor? The earlier 200's and 225's had a problem with the exhaust tubes allowing water to back up into the upper tube and blowing the 02 sensors. The problem and the fix is covered in Service Bulletin #56. Glad you found the problem. On your first post, you said that you shorted the red plug to check for codes. The light that you were supposed to watch (PGMFI) was not there.

For future troubleshooting, you should have two more lights. One for PGMFI and one for Charging.

I do not know how old you motor installation is, but most since the 225 was introduced most cabling included the connectors at both ends for the PGMFI panel like this one. ml.rerap45a.MAC_Key_Switch..jpg

The three pin flat connector is probably under your dash somewhere hidden inside your wiring harness.

It is very likely, that you would have found the problem right away if the light was there.

Just something for the future when you have nothing else to do.

Thanks everyone for the help! My Hondas are 02 models Bahj 1000011 and BAGJ 1000145.
I just got a new O2 sensor from local dealer. American Red Snapper season opens June 2nd
so I didn't want to chance a slow delivery. This has been a great experience with you guys
and my first blog adventure. Thank again, Chuck
