2011 DF90a Overheating issues

I've been "off the road" for a while with IAC issues and serviced the engine and water pump (total hours 240 ) before going back on the water ( all sea water).

!st trip out we had an overheating issue and since then I have;

checked and replaced the pressure relief valve ( and cover as it was seized and needed semtex to remove)

checked the thermostat - all good.

Run a bench test with engine in a bin - overheating and very slight dribble from ee hole.

Put a water hose into the block port and she pees beautifully and maintains a low temperature.

So on dismantling the bottom end i found

1. the bush on the top of the water pump cash was split and torn badly, which was a surprise, bit good to find something amiss.
2. bottom end of one of the impeller fins torn off and in the cup.

So my question is whether the problem is likely to be the torn bush and I just need to replace that and press on or is it a symptom of something else?

Any thoughts?

thanks

Aidan

With the water pump I’d suggest you replace the entire water pump assembly. With overheating the base plate and/or cup could be distorted every so slightly which will no let the pump to pump at maximum capacity. Suzuki sells Maintenance Kits that would have the water pump assembly plus plugs, anodes low pressure fuel filters, oil drain plug washer

Part #1 and #18.

I’m not sure what bushing you are referring to.

Thanks William, I have ordered the pump maintenance kit but in the meantime changed the impeller and WP case bush ( 8 in your diag.

so fired her up on the tank and she purred :)

13 psi @ water pump and ran up to 65c ( on a 30c day) after 30 mins. I ran some salt away through her .

good peeing and increased well with more revs.

I'm thinking its good - what do you think?

On a 30c day… I’m jealous, it’s-40C here.

The thermostat listed on boats.net is 71C and you’re running at 65C, not a big difference just interesting to note. My 2009 DF 90A service manual spec for engine operating temperature is listed as 58-62C. I do know that Suzuki offers 2 thermostats on some engines. You’re the first person that I’ve read about that has had issues with the lower bushing, usually it’s the upper bushing(part #6) that goes bad. Hopefully you caught all the impeller pieces in the cup, little chunks of rubber circulating in the cooling system has caused grief.

First good run and you’ll know if it’s fixed.

You’re the first person that I’ve read about that.....yes, very surprising - maybe i damaged it putting the unit back together last time. I did find rubber and and a couple of tiny shell fragments in the cup - with the pump not working I'm hopeful nothing went up the engine.

Yeah, a good run will tell me. Just have to sort out the garmin engine management system - no dials showing on display and unseize the steering....never ends :)

thanks again

Garmin engine management system, can’t help you there, know nothing about that.

Unseize the steering wheel. Is it cables or steering bracket?
