2009 Honda 25 won't crank

Intermittently my 2009 25 won't crank. Will not turn over as if the battery is dead. If I turn the key to on it starts on usually the first pull using the manual rope. Shift lever is in neutral. Battery is new, fully charged, and terminals are tight. Any help would be appreciated!
 
Check the battery switch and power cable ends as teh first thing. Cable ends can corrode under the heat shrink and look OK but be bad.
 
can you hear the starter solenoid click?without looking at a diagram there are only 3 things involved in picking the solenoid...the key switch..the neutral switch...the solenoid itself...and of course the battery...if the solenoid is picking then then it is a straight feed through it to the battery post...do you have a multimeter and know how to use it?
 
All fuses have been checked and are fine. If you turn the key to start there is nothing, not even a click. I would think that since I can pull start the engine that the neutral switch should be OK. Yes I have a multimeter and know how to use one.
 
Nope, it is on the engine. You can see that on the wiring diagram.

Some of the older Hondas that used Mercury shifters (back in 1995 - 2000 or so) and the older 9.9 and 15's did have neutral safety switches in the shifters. Those switches were not supposed to be connected when the engine had a neutral safety switch, but some were anyway. The older 9.9 and 15's did not have a neutral safety switch on the engines.

I did not mean to be so curt. I didn't have a lot of time and I wanted to be sure aliboy did not spend a lot of time going in the wrong direction.

I appreciate all of the help fellas. Up to the cabin today to see if I can get this fixed before my week of fishing. BTW, in case the switch is actually bad (not just an adjustment) and I need to order a part, can I temporarily jump the switch out of the circuit? I know it's not safe but I would like to be able to use my pontoon for the week. THANKS AGAIN!!!
 
Yes.... you probably just need a paper clip to jumper across the contacts of the plug and some electrical tape to insulate it.

As you said, it is not safe.

Well I think I found it. Looks to be tucked behind what appears to be a piece of electronics with a heat sink. The wires go into a black plastic housing with fusable links? How in the heck do I get to the switch? Remove the electronics? Not trying to be a dufus. Just don't do much wrenching. Thanks again for all of your help.
 
I am afraid so. The piece that you are referring to is probably the rectifier/regulator. You just have to start peeling stuff off.

Take some pictures as you go, so you can route the cables etc correctly when you reassemble.

The good news about no doing much wrenching is.....generally with a Honda, you do not have to wrench.
