2006 Honda BF200 fuel venting and performance issues

Hello everyone,
I have a 2006 Honda BF200 that bogs down at higher rpms. It's as if its starving of fuel. Similar to many other threads previously posted.

Only difference is that I am getting intermittent fuel venting from the vent tube located on the rear mount case, refer to E-18-10. Which indicates a fuel bowl float needle valve issue. I removed the fuel pump assembly, cleaned out the bowl and all orifices with shop air. I Replaced the needle valve #16011-ZY3-A01 and I continue to get fuel venting. HELP!!!!!!

I have replaced all the fuel lines from the fuel tank back, the Racor 10 micron filter, I'm actually trying a Racor 2 micron as I did see small rust particles in the previous filter and in the main fuel bowl. I also added a clear line to monitor any bubbles, attached a separate 3 gallon tank with fresh high octane fuel.

I Changed all 3 engine fuel filters including the first engine fuel filter #16901-ZY3-003, the HP fuel filter 16911-ZY3-010 and the fuel pump filter 16911-759-003 (which is tricky to get to). I've changed the fuel regulator #16740-ZY3-A01, removed and cleaned the main fuel pump assemble and bowl. While I was at it, I replaced the O2 sensor and spark plugs. I continue to have fuel venting issues and ofcourse the bogging down at higher rpm's.

Any additional thoughts would greatly help.

Question, is there any maintenance that I can perform on the LP fuel pump? Can I open it up and check and clean it?

Thanks again and again and again for your inputs. Much appreciated.
I did order:
"fuel pump filter and suspension strainer. See items 7 & 8 at:
http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Ho...ING/parts.html"

And I also ordered the filter mesh screen on the rail.

I'm pulling the filter bowl and needle valve (which is new) again as I suspect that the tab on the filter bowl retainer might need to be bent into the proper closing position for the needle valve. This time I'll pump some fuel into the bowl using my 3 gallon fuel tank and make sure it seats properly before re-installing.

I'll keep you in the loop.

Thanks again.

I discovered that I do NOT have a filter mesh screen on the fuel rails on my model BAEJ-1500323.

I Re-adjusted the fuel bowl float tab. Hopefully the needle valve will seat properly this time.
Changing the fuel pump filter and suspension strainer tomorrow morning.

Over the winter, when I was out of town for an extended period of time, I had my dealer pull a 400 hour maintenance on my engine, which is only only a few hundred SN's newer than yours - BAGJ 1500767. One of the tasks I asked them to do was change out the mesh filter on the fuel rail. That job is recorded as done in the detailed service report and I was charged for the replacement filter - 16614-P5G-003. I seriously doubt if they misrepresented that work.

So I suspect there is one there on your engine some place.

I don't have one on my model. At least not on the fuel rails. I removed the fuel regulator and all of the injectors and there is no fuel filter mesh.

So am I confused. That filter should be there according to all of the literature I'm seeing. However, I must admit I have not personally gotten into the fuel rails on my engine.

1-Fuel filter mesh.
I'll never doubt you again. You were right. There is a fuel filter mesh. Or rather, there should be one. Mine had been removed. It sits directly under the fuel pressure regulator.
2-Honda mechanic confirmed that my HP fuel pump was missing the lower print thus allowing fuel to return into the fuel bowl. The pump showed signs of corrosion. Replaced.
3-Fuel line cut solenoid valve faulty also contributing to my fuel venting issues.
4-Change float and needle valve again just to be sure.

Looking forward to sea trial on Friday. I'll let you know the performance.
Tganks again.

OK.

Don't quite understand what you mean when you said; "my HP fuel pump was missing the lower print thus allowing fuel to return into the fuel bowl." Are you talking about the holder that the fuel pump sits in and has a screen at the bottom?

Anyway, it sounds like once all that is fixed, you should be good to go. Let us know.

Sorry, spell check error (me).
i meant o-ring missing. Actually both #56 & #13 were missing from HP pump.
Item #29 was also missing. Shorty previous maintenance.

Time to close this issue. After replacing the previous items, the mechanic also replace the fuel cutout solenoid. The sea trial proved that everything was corrected and the engine performed well. I have an 18' Robalo open fisherman. With a Honda 200hp. It ran 45mph at 5700rpm WOT. Thanks to all for your help. Until next time.

can you pls provide me with the part number for the fuel cut off solenoid pls! I am facing the same problem now! I am replaced all the parts you had mentioned above! not once but multiple times but no luck! I am digging in to the solenoid now but not sure what the part number is! I have problem with fuel delivery, and motor running rich! pls help honda BF200A3

If memory serves me correctly, the fuel line cut off solenoid sits right next to your low pressure fuel pump. There is a two-prong plug nearby that unplugs it. There is a procedure for testing it in the Helm Shop manual.

See part #6 at: https://www.boats.net/catalog/honda...f225ak0-la-2007-and-later/cylinder-head-cover

It's PN 16200-ZY3-000

However, I doubt if that is the reason your motor is running rich. What are your indicators that it's running rich?

First check your thermostats. If one or both are stuck open, that will cause the engine to run too cool thus a rich burn. Next, check your fuel pressure. It should be between 41 and 49 PSI at idle with the vacuum hose to the fuel regulator removed and clamped. Are you using the correct plugs? They should be NGK IZFR6F11 only.

Hello, the issue with my engine was the high pressure fuel pump. That solved my fuel venting issue. And the solenoid is item #6 as stated before. Good luck.
