I am new to this forum, but not new to Honda's, purchased a 1989 Crestliner Sabre last September with the Honda 150hp 25" shaft ,jacked it up & trim tabs to get bow down ,I ran it with new 4 blade prop to max rpms at 6000 rpms to find out its wrong pitch,1st time i heard this high pitch whine noise, couldn't see any lights ,oil is full ,peeing water ok, not as strong as it was when first got it though, and clean ,but noise wouldn't stop even at idle even after i turned key off, had to turn the battery switch off to kill it. i videoed the noise and sent it to a marine mechanic friend, i thought it might be the VST fuel pump or the Relay or ECM, what it sounds like is the over heat alarm, really high pitch whine, got video but can't upload it here, it only alarms whne i am going over 4000 rpms and when its hot,i have radar heat gun but it doesn't sound on idle/hose flusher, no hose port on engine just undue the hose on starboard side, any clues helpful, going to try to reverse flush out the exhaust from top thermostat with hose jet & salt x, will check out the lower screens for obstructions,, if there was anyway to text the video of the motor whining it would help. Also i hear there 2 thermostats 50 &60 degrees, 60 on block 50 on the top ,but it looks like there 2 under the top cover? Can't find spot on the block looking at the schematics, trying to locate right parts to replace after back flushing motor

Hi,
Have you checked your water separator? I believe it will cause an alarm. Item 3 in link below.

Another thing that I think could cause an alarm like that is the Air Fuel sensor. Item 7 in the link below.

It will log a code if you do but you could try unplugging it to see if that's it. Same for the water separator too.

Good luck.

Thanks, I just serviced the fuel water separator & replaced the fuel filter next to it, I texted the video of the engine noise to my marine mechanic friend and he thinks the high pitch whine is not a over heat or low pressure alarm, he thinks it the Starter Solenoid, keeping the starter engaged, why the noise doesn't quit when i turned off the key switch, had to turn off the battery switch to kill the noise, since the battery leads are direct to the solenoid switch, hard to to test in on the water, but if it continues at the boat launch i can pull boat out and look under the cowl , this starter solenoid is piggy backing the starter, and its not like most starters i have had with outboards before, under the flywheel, its upside down and not visible, going to back wash motor tomorrow and check for blockages, reason i bought this boat was for this great motor, its been a real pain so far, i will upload the video of it tonight

l couldn't figure away upload mp4 video noise so i posted it on Youtube bad quality video, turn up volume to hear engine noise

IT'S ALIENS!!!!
:geek:
kidding!

But it does sound REALLY wierd!

Kinda like the violin section of an orchestra.

If you can get it to do it when the engine cover is off, have a long screwdriver handy and tap on the starter solenoid and then the starter with the handle to see if it will stop.

It's a new on me that's for SURE!
Never heard anything like that.

Get an automotive stethoscope and see if you can hear where the whine is coming from with the cover off.

With engine cove off, start engine if you hear the sound? Pull the black speaker wire that attaches to the starter (the spade connector) on the starter and see if sound stops. If pulling the speaker wire connection on starter sound stops then something in the wiring likely the key switch is stuck on.

Will try this weekend my mechanic buddy told me not to run it long as it could damage the brushes on the starter, the solenoid alone OEM is $320, there was corrosion on the spade connector and under the nut, not sure how to remove the solenoid, shows 2 long bolts

Great will try to pull the black wire and or tap, the spade was corroded, but noise doesn't always occur, sometimes it doesn't but when i am underway it does ands its really loud with the cowling on
