2006 BF225 starting issues

Hello All,

You guys helped me a ton in the past, so I figured I’d see if you knew what could be going on. My 06’ BF225 was running fine, zero problems, cranks up after a second every time first try. I keep up and do all my own maintenance. 800hrs. Haven’t been out in three weeks. A few days ago, put it in the water, took four tries to turn over, but started and ran fine. Took it somewhere and stopped a while, same thing to get home. So I put it in today and tried to turn it over 5-6 times, no luck. Starter just going. Then put it in neutral and throttle up, and starts fine and will run fine. Prior to this, I had drained the vst and racor…any thoughts? Thanks for your time!

Usually if it starts with a little throttle it means your idle air control valve is either dirty or not functioning correctly. Remove it and inspect , it the screen is clogged, clean it with throttle body cleaner, if clean, check for a fault code, a faulty unit usually logs a fault code 14.

Thanks Ian for getting back so quickly. I was reading past threads on these issues all night and couldn’t find one that included starting with throttle. I’ll tackle that right now. The fault code 14, do I need Dr. H, or is that using the light sequences at the dash? I really haven’t had too many issues with this motor yet.

Ian, did exactly what you said, it was extremely gunked up. While there, cleaned both passages as they were black as well. Inspected vacuum tube, no kinks. Hit it with throttle cleaner, reinstalled, cranked, and next one was better. Repeated x3 and that sucker comes to life first crank and revs better than before. I just waited an hr for the cleaner to burn off and same result. THANK YOU sir for your help! You saved me a trip to Hialeah and $$$.
