2004 BF115 Stalling when trimmed down

Looking for a little guidance. I have a 2004 BF115 that quit running due to water in the fuel. Drained fuel system, VST, etc. and motor cranks up and idles like a dream. But, the motor must be slightly tilted to start and run. If the motor is trimmed to level or slightly negative, it stalls. It will not start in this position, but trim it up a little and it starts right up and idles great. Any thoughts? Thank you, John

Hi,
Just a guess but I see in the parts illustration that the fuel rail sits vertically on this outboard. Item 6 in the link.

I'm wondering if that little mesh filter at the top might be partially clogged? Item 5.
Not sure how that would cause this symptom but just tossing it out there.

Also, this model's fuel lines have plenty of turns and dips. That might trap some water unless you blow them out with compressed air.

Silly question but I have to ask...did you drain the engine compartment water separator?

You might want to drain the VST again.

Sorry, no solution, just questions.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I've confirmed there's no water in the fuel system/VST/etc.. Ironically this issue didn't occur prior to the water incident. As mentioned, the motor idles on all 4 cylinders perfectly at slight positive trim or above. It dies when trimmed down. Not sure if there's a wiring issue here, but will try to investigate tomorrow. Thanks again!

Well, the rubber grommets where the wiring harness enters the case are known trouble areas. As they age and harden, they can pinch and chafe causing wear to occur.

Hope you find it.

Good luck.

When the engine is down and won't start, do you have spark? I would guess not, which would leave me to beleive a pinched wire or bad ground. Maybe when the motor gets below a certain spot, it pulls or pushes enough for it to lose connection
