Ok, I am completely frustrated! I have 2003 225 Yamamercs. There is unburnt fuel coming from one of the motors exhaust or somewhere in that area. It started small, then got a little worse. Not enough to be visible. Lays a sheen across the water. Took it to the Mercury mech. After $500, no fix. The shift switches displayed 300 fault codes on one and 180 on the other. Both are on order. The 1,3 & 5 plugs were black. The others were fine. Compression test was good. The Mech advised he would change the shift switches out when they come in. Could that be the problem? Living in the Keys we don't have a whole lot of options to get a second opinion. The motor has and continues to run smooth.

Never heard of the term. Are you talking about injectors? Perhaps a good cleaning would cure the problem.

I'm not a mech. The way it was explained to me was that it controls the shutdown of 3 cylinders when shifting in and out of gear. They just advised that the VST was overlooked, which after explaination, sounds like it could be the culprit, I hope. Will find out next week.

Hello bluewater, see your trying to get more ideas which is good. I glad their checking the VST as that was what I posed on other board. Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the help faztbullet. I will find out next week. I think they prowl on the forums. It was funny, you gave suggestions and later in the day they said they overlooked the VST! Could just be coincidence. Doubt it. Thanks again. I will update.
