2003 optimax 225 water pump

I'm trying to change the water pump. I got the lower
unit off and took out the water pump housing. I replaced the 3 gaskets (rubber,
wear plate and seal gasket). But I have a few questions.

1. There is a
little seal that goes on top of water pump housing on the drive shaft. Does this
seal just simply seat on top of the water pump housing? Or does it go inside the
housing and then poke thru the shaft hole in the housing. Right now I placed the
seal thru the housing so I put together the seal and housing then I slid it down
the shaft of the lower unit.

2 What is the tips on getting the black
little tude infront of the lower unit hook up with the connector up in the lower
unit. Not sure if this little flexible black tube is for.

3 What is the
trick of getting the lower unit back on the motor? I tried a few times and can't
get it to come together. I get close like1.5 inches or so. My motor was in
neutral when I took the lower until off.

Does anyone know where I can find the how to or a write up on how to?

It's easier if 2 men fit the lower unit back up. The tube and spline are bears to line up, but you can do it with practice.
Go to youtube for video tutorials on this kind of thing. Lots of good outboard maintance videos there.

Sets on top of housing and if you got a OEM kit it comes with a plastic cup to ensure it is installed at correct height..

It just plugs in connecter ,its like a miniature sharkbite fitting ans its you speedo hose....

trim it fully up, put in foward gear(unit) and shifter, slip up and turn prop to align crank splines and watch to ensure shift line up...

The connector is way up in the drive shaft housing and I can't get the hose up in there no room for my hands and the flex tube isn't long enough from the lower unit. Should I take if the lower unit first and try to connect it up in the drive shat housing then once I go to install the lower unit have someone attach the tube to the lower unit while I'm holding it ...damn sounds hard as he11...

if I turn the prop the drive shaft doesn't turn... i'm in neutral.... not sure how I can get it in gear the lower unit that is... also if I place the lower unit in gear do I have to place the gear shifter/throtle in gear too?

Just. A tip make sure the key is in before you slide on the impeller and lube the drive shaft with some grease
Turn the flywheel by hand till you get that last inch going up in the crank
I've always done it in neutral too never had a issue
