I am new to the forum so sorry if this has been previously answered. I have been searching for the correct shift shaft height for my newly acquired vessel that is powered by a Evinrude 115hp with the model number J115PLSTS. I cannot seem to find the correct height anywhere. I dont feel like spending thousands on a new lower unit. thanks

Correct information is essential.------You say Evinrude and then appear to give a Johnson model #----Please update.----21-1/4" is the number but first need to confirm model / motor that you have.

I apologize, the previous owner must have added Evinrude decals. The sticker on the engine mount is the J115PLSTS. The engine cover says Evinrude. With the shaft in the neutral position from the lower unit mating surface to the hole in the shaft cannot get low enough to get a 21 1/4” measurement. The engine number indicates a 20” shaft. It is a V4 loop charged engine.

Post some pictures as something is wrong here.----I am beginning to doubt that this is a 2003 Johnson model !!

Or maybe it has the wrong shift rod in it.------Tell the whole story.----Was there a lower unit on this motor when you got it, yes no?----If there was a unit on it was the shift rod hooked up ?----There is information missing.----Be easy to figure out I think !

This could be true. The lower unit was attached and I took it off to reseal it and like an idiot forgot to take the measurement. I resealed the lower unit and replaced impeller and water pump housing. I will post a picture when I have the opportunity to take one. Thanks for your replies so far!

Remove shift rod from the gearcase.----Measure length from center of pin hole to end of the threads.-------Post your number.

Its 21-3/4" as in late 2000 they changed the cowling cover. The shift shaft casting on block up was moved up 1/2 inch for clearance and a new longer shift rod. That why rebuilders show a year break at 2000.

I measured but cannot remember exactly but it was close to 31”. I will post pics of the engine and get a more accurate measurement this weekend.

Hopefully this confirms the year and model

Measured from mating surface to the center of the hole at 21 3/4” and I have not tested but forward does not feel correct. It feels as if there is no slow ahead, if you will.
