I have a 200 hp that was running fine all of a sudden while flushing engine it started to skip. Anyone know what I should check first and is there a way to check the trouble codes on engine?

Do you have a 4-light key-switch consol? If so, are there any other lights that come on besides the oil light when the engine is running?

If not, you can get MIL codes by using a paper clip to shunt the lime green/white to black – that is, the two wires that are closest to the engine when the red service connector is in it’s holder. If in doubt, invest in a SCS service connector, which you can order online. Part number 070PZ-ZY30100.

MIL fault codes are attached.

My controls has 4 lights one is a check engine light it comes on and goes out so it does not show any codes. I am guessing it is something with the gas, I filled it up with high test gas without ethanol on the way home from coast. Could be the gas.

That high test gas should not have a noticable effect on the engine. The EPROM will store fault codes even if the MIL light does not come on. So, look for fault codes as explained earlier to see what is going on.

You evidently did not check for codes as chawk_man has asked you to do.

If you check for codes with the service connector attached and there are no codes, the mil light will stay on.

Chawk_man knows his stuff...

My controller has 4 lights check engine, battery above the key and a red and green light beside the key when running only the green light is on. I thought the check engine light would flash for the codes. I do not have a service connector I do not have a lime green wire

Okay - First and formost read your owners manual. You can download one free from www.hondamarine.com. Remove your engine cover. At the front of the engine, there is a cover held on by a rubber strap. Remove the cover. Under the cover you will see a red 4-prong female connector. That's where you plug in the service connector, OR shunt the lime green/white wire to the black wire to get the fault codes to flash on the MIL light.

You should be shorting the lime green/white to black – that is, the two wires that are closest to the engine when the red service connector is in it’s holder. If in doubt, invest in a SCS service connector, which you can order online. Part number 070PZ-ZY30100.

Turn on the ignition key.
If the MIL comes on and stays on without blinking, you have one of the following conditions:
• Short circuit in the service check connector wire
• Short circuit in the MIL wire
• Short circuit in the sensor system power supply
• Open circuit in the power supply line to the ECM
• Faulty ECM

If the MIL comes on, then goes off after a few seconds, there are no codes in the EPROM.

If the MIL starts blinking, then count the blinks, which will indicate the fault code.

Having said all of that, if you are going to attempt to do your own work on this engine, then you need to invest in a Honda Shop Manual. It costs about $116. Don't go cheap and get the after market manuals. They are typically full of errors or are incomplete. You can order a manual at http://www.helminc.com/helm/search_service_owner.asp?Style=helm&class_2=MAR&category=1&posted=1%20%0D%0D%0D

Chawk_man...

Here's a good one. Checking the updated manual for A2 - K0 225's ....if the MIL stays on is prefaced by Normal (with SCS connected)...then says...if engine condition continues without the MIL blinking, check the following:

The following is basically what you have listed.

Then if I check the chart for the K1 225's, it only says what you have listed without the "preface".

Does not sound very consistant, does it? I will have to ask our Tech rep the next time I talk to him.

Well crap. Guess I'll have to play with that the next time I pull the boat and sse how it really works. BUT, about a year ago, I checked, and it acted like it says in the old manual. Of course, I didn't have any faults in the EPROM, so the test was not complete.

I checked the codes it blinked 1 time about every 5 sec. So I checked the plugs 1 was wet. I'm guessing maybe the plug or coil bad is there a way to check coil and should I replace the plug

One blink is either your HO2 sensor or plug misfire. I would change out the plug first and see if that fixes the problem. if not, switch the coil with another cylinder and see if that plug gets wet. If so, replace the coil.

Okay - that sounds right. BTW - when is the last time the plugs were changed? Maintenance manual says every 400 hours, but I change mine every 200 hours, which is about 2/3's of a year based on my usage.

Why not change them all out? Keep a few of the good ones onboard for emergencies and for testing bad plugs in the future.
