2002 115 2 stroke oil tank question

Alarm sounded. Oil switch shorted (ohm checked with DMM) with tank ⅔ full. Looked at parts list and saw switch and wires but no magnet that you read about on forums that may have come unglued, fallen off from somewhere.... Switch PN is 87-12886A6 OEM.

The switch is inserted into the bottom of the tank and something secures it....surely not just friction, interference fit, haven't had the tank off...will get parts first. Switch is encased in hard plastic, sealed tube. If the switch is sealed from it's external environment and no "magnet" is in the parts list, how does the switch know the oil level?

Thanks,
Mark

The magnet is on the float inside tank, rides up and down molded "tube" in tank. The switch you refer to slips up into molded "tube" area and magnet/float position either opens(full) or closes (low) switch to sound alarm. Either replace tank or cut it open and plastic weld it back together...
