2001 Black Scorpion help

Howdy! New here and new to this boat. I picked up a 2001 Centurion Concourse to make some memories with the kids.

boat has a vortec 350 with that Black Scorpion injection. Long story short, the guy I got the boat from told me the boat melted down a plug in cylinder eight and now that cylinder has low compression. I threw a bore scope in it and the cylinder had some pretty bad gouging on the cylinder walls

so I’m looking for a long block so I can swap it out and get some fun out of it this summer. This is where I’m running into trouble. The casting on the block in there is 10243880 (MERC TAG NUMBER :L674155). I found a bunch of “880” long blocks but they’re all rated at 260hp and from what I’ve read this “black scorpion” engine is rated at 330hp. I doubt slapping that injection on the top is going to add 70hp, but I could be wrong… the second option I’ve come across is a 383 that’s rated at 346hp, but I don’t know if I can just slap that injection on a 383 as I’m not sure how you’d tune it.

I plan to call mercruiser on Monday when they’re open and see what they say, but any pointers from you guys would be super appreciated.

these are the engines I’m looking at

the “880” 260hp engine:

the 383:

the big difference in the 'rating' is that they were done at different RPM...and the torque values are much more useful than the horsepower numbers...

I'd be inclined to go with the larger displacement replacement. IF it needs a different tune, you just get the ECU reprogrammed, and I'd get whoever built the engine to give you their tune recommendation.

I’m inclined to agree with you. I just wasn’t sure how compatible that injection would be. I’ve been having a hard enough time finding engine specs I figured any ecm tuning/changes would be a nightmare.

You can "slap that injection on" the 383 and you'll be just fine. According to the parts reference, the same ECM is used for the 5.7 and the 6.2. Hope you can find an engine!
