My check engine light came on the other week and stays on when key is on. Replaced tach in 01, hot light stayed on. Understand there was a tach issues for this model. Not sure if its same thing again without buying a tach this time. Boat runs fine except that at idol seems to possibly load up on oil and puff some blue smoke more than usual otherwise runs a good as ever. Had 7 people in the 01 sv2100cc seapro at the coast and was not going to take a chance on being stranded.

I believe a check engine like will be related to a fuel restriction. There is a vacuum switch in the fuel line and if too much vacuum is sensed it triggers the light.

That would quite likely explain your smokey idle. The OMS pump is sending the correct amount of oil for the engine demand but if there is a fuel restriction it can't deliver enough fuel so your fuel/oil ratio is higher than normal.

Thanks, light stays from the get go turn key, beeps, lights count down, check engine light stays on, before turning over the motor. Have noticed amp guage pegs at 18v so I need to do some more checking. Runs great, idol(other than puff of blue), wot, check light may be coincidental . Main concern was VRO giving out. I'll check my volt meter, it's reading 12v with key off, that's not right either I'll get back. Thanks

There is no vac in system if engine is off. if it comes on where you turn key to "on" it either bad system check tach or vac switch shorted. You can disconnect vac switch and see if it still comes on.
