2000 Ficht, in need of info about EMM

'Evening ladies and gents.

I recently purchased a '00 150 ficht. After proper diagnoses, it turns out the EMM is shot. Was clogged solid with salt, and it is evident that the heat took its toll.

Anyhow, this thing got so hot all of the numbers are gone, and finding cross reference information hasn't been the easiest. As far as i can tell, 2000 was the first year for the water cooled EMM, and after 2002 something to due with the oiling system changed which made any prior EMM's incompatible.

I've sourced somebody that can program the unit for my engine, and have also found multiple listings for guaranteed good condition EMM's from 2000-2002. What can i do to make sure i purchase the correct unit? Part number's seem to stay the same. Can i do it by verifying the donor's year?

Model number E150FSLSSM
Manufacture date 12/1999

Thank you so much for any help.

You are in deep ****. 2000 year model is very tough.

Ok, you need to know that the EMM is programmed to the parameters of each individual injector. there are 4 parameters that are custom loaded into the EMM before you can safely run the motor.

So, you have NO parameters for loading the used EMM. Any used EMM. No parameters to match the injectors to the engine.

If your EMM will power up and talk to the computer with the proper EV Diags software, then get the parameters for the 6 injectors on your engine. Read them out and save!!!! You can load the into the used EMM.

This is a very complicated subject, as OMC was going thru the throes of bankruptcy, You will not find manuals, new parts are gone, and there were so many design mods that even the best dealers were not up to date.

Sorry dude, 199 2000 were bad years.

Thanks a ton for the information.

The engine DOES run on the original EMM, however it will only idle. It idles well and sounds perfect, when you give it throttle it instantly dies and takes about 30 seconds before it will allow me to crank it up again.

Spoke with DTI technologies, they feel there is a chance they can read what they need from what i have. They also have an EMM in stock for a fair price. Im going to begin a transaction with them and see where i end up. Hopefully it works out, otherwise, i have me a pretty parts motor.

Fazt left out a "space". It should have read "Is it a 2000 SS"
SS is the year code located within the model number that you see here: E150FSLSSM. Note the SS in there.

I guess you have the best possible solution and are working it. If DFI can get your injector parameters...wow, you have made a giant leap forward.

Let us know what happens.

Any advantage or disadvantage to the SS year code?

Another question. What if i were to get a matched EMM and Injector set from a parts motor?

You are not going to like the answer.
That motor was probably the worst motor that Evinrude ever made....1999, 2000....those years.
That HP is notorious for blowing up. There were numerous engineering changes, recalls, service bulletins...what ever you want to call them.

You would do very well to research all these required service changes, and make sure you have them on the motor.

I know for SURE that you want the latest and greatest EMM running profile, called an engine map, installed at the very least.
You have to put it on EvDiags to read out the version you have, compare it to the latest version number, and update if necessary.

DFI can do all that for you.

A matched pair (EMM and injectors) is ideal. But I would still put it on EVDiags when the new matched pair is installed to double check.
All used injectors run the risk of being worn, and not injecting at the rate they were designed to do.

You are on the right track tho.

When running, I would use EvDiags to drop test each cylinder, making sure they all respond as much as possible the exact same way.
Do this at idle, and at various RPM on the water. Do a lot of plug reading too. Run a WOT run for 3 minutes up the river, then turn key off.
Coast to stop, pull the plugs and read them, looking for any sign of a lean condition.

Double check the timing offset. Again...with EvDiags. That is REQUIRED. Do not exceed the max WOT timing advance.
There is a lot to do....a lot to learn.

Wowzers!

Well, BRP got back to me today, and confirmed the part number of the EMM i need is 0586724. Hopefully this is correct, im sure all of the focus is on the newer etec's.

If thats the case, there are a few listings of emm/injector sets with that emm part number at an affordable rate. The EMM flash is much cheaper than i had expected, and maybe it will pay to have DFI check/service the injectors while im at it.

Outside of that, what is most affordable method to obtain EvDiags and a cable?

internet. ebay. ppl selling it from overseas. I got mine from a guy in Monaco. cost about 80 bucks,

it is bootleg. it works fine. newest versions work straight out of the box with a usb cable...no serial adapter needed.

Just to post an update, DFI has both the old and replacement EMM. He claims he is confident he will get the work done. I should have it back late this week.

I just got my lil winxp netbook fired up with a fresh install, im going to dedicate it to evdiags.

Okay,

So, after weeks of toying with things, i ended up with a 'good used' EMM (original part number, not a later model). I was able to successfully move the data from my old EMM to the new, and the engine runs like a champ. I do notice that i have an updated version of the engine map available, file 3030206_33893 to be exact. When i load it, i can no longer communicate with the EMM and its dead in the water. I have a feeling this file is for a later EMM. I used the recovery utility and re flashed with 3030079_25738.

Can anyone chime in on this? Is 3030079 the latest available for my EMM or could the map file i have be corrupt?

BRP made an upgraded EMM for that engine to replace the ones from OMC. Part number 586724(BRP) replaces 586484(OMC)

The MAP 3030079_25738 is for the EMM manufactured by OMC, 3030206_33893 is for the EMM manufactured by BRP.

That answers my question perfectly.

Well, we will see how long this OMC EMM will last. It will be in fresh water and I already completely the water line mod.

Now im super happy, I can get on the water again!
