Was running fine all of a sudden it felt like I hit something but didn't . now I can get it over 2500 rpm without it shaking violently. prop is OK.

Drain gear oil and see if any chunks of metal are there.----------Might do a compression test / look at the sparkplugs too.

What is the model number? First rule here. Dammit.

Why? A 2000 Johnson is a carbureted motor, and a 2000 Evinrude is a Ficht fuel injected.

Yeah Fazt.....but, he says it shakes violently when above 2500. So, it could be the gearcase (maybe bent propshaft), in which case the model number is irrelevant, or it could be SLOW (carbed motor) or REV LIMIT (Ficht motor) seeing as how he specifies that 2500 magic number.

I hit a manatee at 3000 RPM one time. It shattered the forward gear. There was no shaking, but there was a terrible clunking when in gear.

I guess we will see.....
