200 Stalling After Being Returned to Neutral

Hoping for some advice or troubleshooting info. I have 1995 200 Ocean Runner. The motor stars perfectly and runs perfectly. When returning the boat from forward gear to neutral it stalls. It will do so even if I slowly drop it into neutral. It is fine going from forward, through neutral and into reverse and vice versa. At normal idle it is in about the 800RPM - 900RPM range my other motor is in. Any ideas?

Check the shift interrupter as the metal bracket it clips in is known for breakage...

Is this located within the shifter assembly? I wouldn't think it was the issue because as soon it stall I can start it right up without readjusting the shifter. Also, the motor doesn't abruptly stall. It seems to drop RPM's. I was thinking maybe I need to go up a tad on the idle?

Thanks for the response!

Shift Interrupter Switch...... Follow the shift cable to the engine linkage, then the linkage to where it turns into a heavy duty rod that enters a nylon bushing. Somewhere close by you should see two wires... a Black wire and a Black/Yellow wire. That would be the switch.

You can temporarily bypass that switch by simply disconnecting that Black/Yellow wire.... temporarily as a test! If that cures your problem, you need a new switch OR corrosion has built up in the nylon bushing area which is causing pressure on the shift switch and linkage.

NOTE that many boat/horsepower/prop combinations, will result in an impossibility to "take the engine out of gear" with the switch bypassed, even at a idle (The Reason For The Switch!), so be advised.
