20 hp Honda electric start will not work

I have a late model 20hp long shaft that will no longer start with electric start.
The engine will start with manual pull start and runs great. The battery is good (load tested) ans cables and connections at the battery are also ok.
There is no sound when starter switch is pressed.
Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the switch and test the solenoid ?

Thanks in advance.

John

Hi John,
If no one's said it yet, welcome aboard the forum.
Locate the solenoid near the starter motor. Remove kill switch key for safety. Using a jumper wire you can apply 12V to the terminal being fed by the black wire with white tracer (stripe). The solid black wire is ground. If the solenoid clicks and the starter engages, then you may have an out of adjustment neutral safety switch.

If the solenoid fails to click when you do this then you either have a bad ground for the solenoid or a failed solenoid. Try supplementing your own ground at the terminal on the solenoid where the solid black wire is connected and again try applying voltage at the solenoid terminal for the black wire with white tracer.

Let us know what you find.

Thanks very much for your reply. The problem was with the neutral safety switch.
The nut which secured the switch in place had fallen off, thus the switch would not close when in neutral.
This was an easy fix.

Thanks again,

John
