2 Stroke Engines in Racing

I was watching H2O Racing, outboard hydroplane racing in Branson.

Never got a good look at the engines and they were not described. However, one looked like an Evinrude, but not sure. There were Mercs.

Might Evinrudes or Johnsons still used in outboard racing circuits?

Yes------Many Evinrudes / Johnsons were built for racing.------15 HP with pointy lower unit is popular.----A group called ----" Second Effort " built these and many others on late 80's / early 90's.----Up to a formula 1 model V-8

Thats why it was called "Second Effort" as they could not compete with Merc engines. A lot of guys used the BRP/Evinrude DFI engines till they folded.

I'm surprised there aren't more performance mod / racing threads on this site seeing how it's a engine repair forum.

At one point or another, we've all modified our cars to go faster.

Why not outboards.
