1999 Johnson on a 1990 stratos 201

I have a 1999 Johnson 200 on a 1990 stratos pro. I installed a new tech with the check engine warning lights. I cut the wires off the old tech and plugged in the harness for the 1999 Johnson into the new tach. Now my check engine light/buzzer goes off at high rpm’s when trimmed up. My water pressure is in the 20s. Should I not have cut the old wires? Thanks In advance!

That could be a false reading. What lower unit do you have and how high on jack plate?

6” manual highjacker plate. Ran fine when I 1st had motor put on 1st through 3rd trip out. I changed the tach and put a 26 pitch prop on it. Only 2 things I changed after 3rd trip out. That when motor started acting like it didn’t want to go and then would run normal and then rough idle.
