Hello. I have a 1998 johnson 90 hp with the ois ignition. I have issues with cold start and after run start. Motor has 130psi and the carbs/throttle plates have been cleaned about 3 times in the last two months. Fuel is clean and free of water or trash. Idle timing is set to 4 degrees atdc. Symptoms are when starting the motor after it hasn't been ran for a day or however long. It takes a couple of tries before it seems to straighten out and run. Then you can take off and head to the hole and the motor will run like a dream. Get to the spot shut her down for a few and then try to start again and it's a total pain. I've been going through ignition test procedures trying to find a possible culprit. My tests on the charge coil were 1200 ohms resistance and 560 AC volts cranking. Little concerned cause the manual says 150-400 volts. Resistance test on the coils packs were within spec but a power pack primary lead running test show 260 AC volts. The coils packs looked a little cracked on the back so they are being replaced. Thick blue spark jumps a half inch gap. I will stop here. Any thoughts. Model # j90pleeb. Thanks

Are you pushing the key in while cranking the motor to start it ?--------Have you checked the electric primer valve ?

Change the sensor "eye" has they had problems with these breaking down under a heat soak. You can test it running with a heat gun to see it it breaks down....
