1998 evinrude 225 trim pump

why will trim not go up or down when motor is working, manual release valve is closed and fluid level is okay. pistons go up and down when manual release valve is open.

The coupler between the trim motor and the trim pump could be broken.

Saying the fluid is okay really doesn't tell us if the reservoir is full or not. When the engine is in the fully tilted position, the reservoir should be filled to overflowing... is it?

If it is, it's possible that a air lock exists under the oil pump itself. Apply 7 to 12 psi of air to the reservoir to force the fluid into the various passageways. Don't overdo the air pressure and use a rag or something to create a seal between the air nozzle and the reservoir fill hole.

Service manual only later models do not cover hydraulics anymore only the trim motor..

fazrbullet.... Is that unit basically the same design as the earlier 225 PTT units? If so, the earlier manuals should suffice. If not... leaves quite a few mechanics doing guess work.

the manuals do not help. nothing in manuals about the valve body does anybody have any info on them other then buy a new one
