1997 Mercury 150 EFI shuts off

1997 Mercury 150 EFI

Motor starts, idles, and runs fine up to 4000 rpms. While running on plane between 4500 & 5000 rpms the motor will shut off mid run.

Replaced fuel uptake line & gas line.

What are the steps you would take in diagnosis?

Shut off like key or kill switch activated or loose power and die? Will it restart after it shuts down or has to wait a while?

Once it hits high rpms it shuts off completely mid run. Starts right back up no problem.

Either fuel driver module in ECU or fuel pump shutting down. Do you have a battery gauge and is it overcharging? If so fuel pump can overheat and stop. If charging is OK, you can for test purposes ONLY install a ground wire to negative side of fuel pump and test run. If it engine runs OK its ECU repair time.
