New to forum so hope to get some help. My dad did me the "favor", he went out and bought a boat with a 15O hp1997 (150PLEUC) engine that has been a headache to say the least. Long short of it, after many fuel issues we got it running perfect, new spark plugs (gapped and indexed), fuel lines, fuel pump, clamps, bulbs, filters, gas tank flushed and so on. Was quite surprised how smooth it actually ran. Well that was short lived. We had it running smooth sailing on the hose and I lowered the boat via the front tongue jack to level the boat off and then the motor began to sputter as if it were running out of fuel. I immediately jumped in there and shut it off. We added more fresh fuel and tried to restart it but it was shooting large amounts of oil from exhaust (Prop hub). It finally started again and just ran terrible. Heavy smoking and missing as if was not hitting on all 6. So rechecked all fuel components and put another set of plugs in. No luck. Any input would help. Thank you.

If I'm looking at models correctly, this is the 1st generation FICHT Direct Injection motor. Unfortunately they were huge problems for OMC and went through numerous recalls and updates to fix a wide variety of issues. The only way you're going to get to the bottom of these problems is connect this to a computer and read codes using EVDIAG software.

Compression test first. Then check the injectors as sound like one or more are flooding. These are the worst models as all the updates and factory modifications could not keep them from failing. I may be wrong but I think EVDiag only does 98 up motors....
