I am having all kinds of trouble with the VRO on my 200 HP Evinrude, 1997. I would like to convert to a conventional fuel pump and premix the entire on-board tank at 50:1. My question is, what is the correct fuel pump I need to purchase to accomplish this......438559?

Thanks in advance!

Is there an issue with crankcase compression pressure ?----It is that pressure that drives fuel pumps.----Thr bid V-6 might need 2 of the 559 pumps.----Have you taken the VRO apart to see if any thing is wrong with it ?

Compression is good in a cylinders....I have not checked the pulse limiter (really can't figure out how to get to it on this motor.....any advice?). I guess I sort of gave up on the VRO and have become afraid that it could fail in some way and ruin my motor, thus pre-mix for safety sake and peace of mind. Is 438559 correct?

specifically from cylinder 6 in my case, at least that's what I read. In any event, as I stated I am afraid of continuing with the setup I have and would like to get back to a conventional OB fuel pump....Is 438559 correct for my motor?

The earlier V-6 ( pre 1984 ) used @ fuel pumps like 438559 in series.------But you can try to use 1-----Or look on a site called ----maxrules----see what they list for your VRO elimination.

Just cap off the oil inlet to pump and pre-mix.

Thank you Racer.....I went to the site you recommended and now have a pre-mix pump on order. Sounds as though I will need to locate and remove the pulse limiter from the fuel circuit before installing, is this correct?

Faztbullet......thanks for responding.....I tried rebuilding the VRO but I never could get it to work properly. I've finally gotten skiddish enough to just abandon it alltogether and pre-mix for peace of mind. I sort of suspect it has something to do with the internal check valves inside the pump, which are not included in the kit........or the pulse limiter, which I've yet to figure out how to access.

The pulse limiter is a " flow fuse " to protect the VRO housing.----Remove it , install a plain fitting for the pulse hose of your new pump.----Remember if there are issue with crankcase compression , your new pump may not work properly either.----Time will tell.

I did the same thing for the same reason and will give you my 2 cents.... I bought the after market fuel pump that is a double pump built into one and it is giving me fits. I'm buying two pumps that operate independently off of different crankcase ports but are hooked together so that one feeds the other. That's the only way you will get enough fuel. Other wise you'll be standing on the choke.

Update....I received the new fuel pump(s) which come 2 in series....performed the install, removed pulse limiter, and went to the lake. The motor ran great! Idles great, runs great too.........very pleased. Thanks to all who responded.

Benellis35.......I wonder if your crankcase compression is not sufficient to drive both pumps off the same port?
