1995 30hp mercury

My engine has oil injection on it but when it just sits in slowly drains all the oil from the tank out through the exhaust onto the ground ?
I looked at the parts list all I can figure out is the check valve might be stuck. Could it be that simple or am I dreaming. Any Ideas

That a very simple system...either check valve, tank not venting, or oil pump seal has backed out.
