I recently had the efi removed and put carbs on this motor. Before this the boat would turn 5800-6000 and run 60mph. Now the boat won't turn but 4100 and run 32 mph. Doesn't idle well and struggles going into gear to stay running. This engine is on a flats boat. There also a film on the water when I stop. I think it's oil. Anyone know why she won't turn the same with carbs. I was told doing away with the computer would increase performance.

It should be as fast. I suggest doing a plug check using plugs that you can read the colors with (ie, not gapless plugs). I've used NGK BP8H-N10 for that purpose.

PS: If you're not familiar with the process, you run it WOT for at least 10 seconds then cut it off clean--no idling allowed. Keep track of which plug went where as you pull them and read the colors. Bet you a six pack they'll be plenty dark colored (running super rich). I usually do this with the boat on the trailer, using a much lower pitch prop (to get the rpm up) than normal.

Ok, thanks. I will try today!

Did you use the EFI intake or a carb one??? The EFI one is to short and you loose velocity thru the carbs. Did you put the recirculation lines back in use?

It's a Carb intake. I'm sure that the lines were put back. I didn't do the work but will look into it.

Thanks for replying
