Problem: Engine chokes out when running under load. Problem gets worse as the day progresses. Cold starts fine. Initial launch gets on plane, gets to about 6000 RPM and then engine chokes like its running out of gas and dies. After an hour on the lake, the motor won't go above 10 mph (2500 RPM) without choking out. Tried holding the choke in and it gets a little more gas but dies at anything past idle. Pumped the primer bulb while throttling up and did manage to get on plane but once primer bulb was no longer manually pumped, chokes and dies.

What I've replaced/repaired:

***The oil injection system was unplugged and disabled by a prior owner***

new spark plugs; Rebuilt all 6 carbs (20 years experience); replaced 4 float bowls that were warped; replaced fuel pump (officially deleting oil pump); replaced gaskets and float needle in primer pump; replaced fuel hoses from tank switch to pump filter; used air compressor to blow out fuel lines to both fuel tanks (air escaped the vents); replaced primer bulb; replaced head gaskets; replaced thermostats; new power pack 18 months ago; fuel filter is clean and gasket replaced.

My nephew told me to check the reed valves but before I tear into my engine for the 4th time and have to drop another $200 in replacing what ever gaskets I destroy in the process, I wanted to ask the experts what they feel the issue is.

Thank you for your time helping me with my problem,
Austin

Sounds like have a fuel restriction problem.

Did you check flow at your fuel selector switch? Maybe there is something blocking either inlet port or the outlet port of the switch?

Do your fuel tanks have anti-siphon valves? Those can stick closed (or partially) and restrict flow.

So you blew air INTO the tanks from the fuel outlet hose and the air escaped OUT through the vents? Unless I'm thinking about this wrong, the vents should NOT let air out, instead they should prevent vapors from escaping and only let air into the tank to replace volume as fuel is consumed.

Here's a quick easy test. Loosen the gas filler cap(s) and take the boat for a run. Does the bogging problem still exist or is it gone? If it still bogs the vents aren't your problem and your issue is elsewhere. If loosening the caps fixes the problem then you need to look into replacing the fuel vents. Often these are integrated into the filler neck so you'll have to change out the whole assembly. It would be odd that both tanks would fail, but little spiders like to make those places their homes and you could have a bunch of spider web wadded up in the vent holes.
