1993 Mercury 115hp vs 2010 Optimax Mariner 115hp

Hi everyone!

First time posting on here and unfortuantely I am still very much a newbie.

I was searching the market for a boat and found a 1993 Maxum 1800xr at a decent price, but after consulting with a mechanic he mentioned how the engine (Mercury 115hp 1993) would be very fuel inefficient.

I was scouring online and found a Mariner Optimax 115hp 2010 at a good price and was thinking of maybe replacing the outboard to this one.

Would I see a considerable difference in fuel consumption and would it make financial sense for me to purchase the newer motor?

I am still very new to the boating world and don't know what I should do. According to my mechanic, the Optimax would be much more fuel effiicient, what are your thoughts?

The newer engine comes with the control unit included so i guess it wouldn't be difficult to swap (?).
Air compressor you mean for the old one?

The optimax uses a compressor !!----The optimax uses a PCM ( computer ) that is listed as not available.----The throttle control box is NOT the same as the engine management control computer !

Ahh I see. Thanks for informing me, again, quite a newbie unfortunately and am not very knowledgeable!

Sounds like you need to find an honest shop / mechanic that will treat you like family.-----The older motor that uses a bit more fuel might serve you well.----Will not present you with repair cost --" sticker shock "
