1992 Johnson 155 Commercial J155WTXENE

I was given a running 155 HP Johnson over the weekend. Im going thru it since it has not been in service for 4 years. I know these old motors typically have compression numbers around 95 psi for the 150-175 recreational models. how about the commercial units? The 155 has 84-86 psi on all 6 cylinders. Should I be concerned? Still have plenty of life left? My service manual does not mention compression numbers. i know they need to be within 10% of each other but how low is too low?

Yes it runs and I plan to do a decarb. It has been in storage for the last 5 years and I am going to hook up on a stand and get her awakend. Seriously thou...what should the compression numbers be if it was in top form? Anyone know?
 
If its a true commercial unit it should have the low compression heads so I can run chitty fuel pushing a load...
 
Thats what I thought also but was worried that 85 PSI is too low? Maybe not..... Looks like the gear case was also beefed up....maybe from a 275? im going to run of premix till i know the VRO is good. Carbs will get a good cleaning. Hopefully all is well. I came Webster NY....fresh water use....super clean. I'll get pics posted soon.

Glad to hear Boobie.The more I research the more I find that these numbers are just fine for this model. My ole 88 150HP runs at 92 psi on all 6 nice and strong. So I hope this will be the same. If the hour meter is to be believed that was on the boat it came off of. The motor only has 256 hours. According to the service records the owner gave me, the motor has been taken care of since new. Its been in stoarge for the last 5 years. We'll know more this weekend.
 
Don't for get the decarb. If at all possible get some BRP Engine Tuner and follow the instructions on the can to the letter.
 
So I finally got the motor mounted and all the systems check. Ran the motor and did the BRP Engine Tuner...Thank you Boobie!!! Worked like a champ. I now have 95psi on all 6 cylinders...actually runs pretty good in the test tank. I have a few issues to fix with the wiring harness but other than that seems to be fine....not bad for a free motor!!!
 
Here is a video of the motor running. Motor is finally mounted and rigged on the Angler 204 FX Clean up my mess and splash this weekend.....lol
