bought this on 92 ranger, very clean rig, put a electronic temp gauge coming straight off the port head to gauge, and it had a water pressure and that gauge shows 2lbs and running it shows 9lbs, (don't trust it).
the temp gauge idling 160 degrees, throttle it up and it hits 220 fast!!, has new thermostats, poppet valve and of course water pump, going to pull the plugs and scope the cylinders and do a compression test. any suggestions?

Chasing a ghost as temp gauges are inaccurate, water pressure near normal for a 2.5L. If your not getting any alarms your good.

I put the water muffs on it and ran it to 160 idling. Checked the head temp with my temp gun it showed 167. So apparently this temp gauge is fairly accurate. It takes seconds to hit 220 at 3/4 throttle under load. What else could be wrong. It might set off the alarm. Just have not ran it that long Plugs all look good. Scope the cylinders all black no steam cleaned all cylinders even around 115-120 psi. I just don’t trust the alarms to keep me from burning this thing up.

Use the proper gauge as outboard gauges do not have temp number. These are more for 4stroke and I/O motors. You need a gauge with face like below....
