Purchased a 1990 ProV but the electrical needs some attention. There are two banks of fuse holders. Bottom bank has 5 fuse holders all holders are marked 10amp 250 volt. Everyone of these fuse olders is empty. top bank also has 5 fuse holders. they are all marked 10amp 250volt. The fuses in the top bank are not 10amp. they range from 20amp to 40amp. did the previous owner use the wrong size fuses? should these all be 10amp fuses? Any help is appreciated...thanks

i would suspect these fuse holders were add on's and that the installer just used what he could get and they happened to be labeled that way... a boat and motor would not use a bank of all 10 amp fuses....the fuses needed would be of varying sizes and that s what you have..consider yourself lucky that some additional fuses were added....what the fuses are for is the question if there are no additional labels........you could probably do a little wire tracing and find out..i would put some spare fuses in the boat and a multimeter in the tool box and use the rig and not worry about it...

The markings on the fuse holders indicate the the maximum load for that particular type of fuse holder. The correct fuse for each circuit is determined by the load it carries.

Agree with Papyson. Typically, there will be a common ground to the fuse box, often coming all the way from the battery switch or the battery itself. Depending on the electrical equipment that you have onboard and the length of the run to the battery box, this should be anywhere from a 4 gauge to 8 gauge wire. Trace the wires from each fuse's positive wire then label each with a tag. In the future, that will save you a lot of time tracing circuits and diagnosing electrical issues. Also, if you add up the loads on each circuit, you can determine whether you have the proper fuse in there.

thanks for the help everyone. I had an opportunity to look at another prov and every fuse was 10amps or 5amps. Previous owner must not have cared if he had the right fuses or not.
