Hey everyone,
I have a 1989 Mercury 115 ELPTO 2-stroke 4cyl outboard and I'm trying to buy a rebuild kit. Initially I was told to purchase a top guided kit, which I received and the con rods wouldn't fit into the pistons. So, I did some digging and I found a rebuild kit marked "bottom guided with con rods marked #638" which mine are marked with 638-8532-1. Just to be safe I went ahead and sent the shop an email to verify which kit I should order. They asked for my engine serial number, which I supplied, and then pointed me towards a "bore looper" kit. This doesn't seem right to me. I can't find anything online about a bore looper that looks anything like my engine, let alone Mercury. If anyone could offer some insight, I sure would appreciate it!
